Samsung Gear VR users can start making friends in a virtual reality world now that AltspaceVR has released its app for the headset to the public. In fact, they can mix and mingle not only with other Gear VR users, but also with people who use the HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift. You can think of AltspaceVR as something like Second Life for virtual reality. It’s the same social platform Engadget editor Sean Buckley once used to play a VR game of Dungeons & Dragons.
These arguments have so far not swayed a sitting American president. Sure, President Obama mentioned cybersecurity at the State of the Union, but his proposal not only doesn’t boost security research and development, it potentially criminalizes it. At the White House’s cybersecurity summit last week, Obama told Silicon Valley bigwigs that he understood the hacking problem well—We all know what we need to do. We have to build stronger defenses and disrupt more attacks”—but his prescription this time was a tepid executive order aimed at improving information sharing between the government and industry. Those hoping for something more Rooseveltian must have been disappointed.
In order to connect to the OBDII port and read the ECU information you need and adapter and a reader (or a single unit that does both, see below). There are a lot of options out there, but here I am reviewing a very inexpensive Bluetooth adapter that you can then connect to with an Android powered smart phone and use an app called Torque Pro to read the information. I’ve also included below a link to an all in one unit for those who don’t have or don’t want to use a smart phone.
If you don’t have a smart phone or you just don’t want to mess with all the Bluetooth wireless nonsense there are plenty of hard wired connector/readers out there. Here are two that I’ve Gear VR come across that seem VERY highly reviewed and inexpensive. I have not personally used these so I can’t vouch for them but read the reviews and see if they might work better for you.
The future cannot be forecast when the mind revolts from reality and the natural laws. Only love of life and respect for reality can provide men of reason and freedom and means to help shape and forecast the faint outlines of the future. The future is what men make it, so long as they never close their minds to the heroic potential of the human mind and ideas.
We’re seeing fewer and fewer people reading newspapers. In fact, according to James Adams, the CEO of United Press, the number of newspaper readers has declined by 600,000 a year for the last ten years. Moreover, younger adults are abandoning the newspaper enmasse. While adult readership has gone from 81% to 64% over the past 30 years, the majority of young people 18-24 don’t read a newspaper at all.
